Our Ingredients

It’s what’s in the bread that matters.

Every loaf we bake takes time, energy, passion and love. But on top of that there are the physical ingredients too. Flour, water and salt - that’s all good bread really needs.

We have a strong ethos here at the bakery to have minimal environmental impact in our baking, as well as promote healthy eating through our clients, and so choosing where to source our ingredients is a big decision. Food miles, farming methods, production methods, delivery of the products…it all has to be considered!

Our Flours

The most important ingredient in any loaf.

At Plattsville we only work with organic flours. We currently source our flours from two separate millers; Wildfarmed and Shipton Mill. Please do check out their websites, there’s some interesting reading to be done!

Wildfarmed flour fixes the planet, because it is farmed differently. These guys support and educate their growers in following regenerative farming practices, which means every wheat harvest gives good stuff back to the soil rather than takes it away. Healthy soil = healthy plants = healthy people. Simple really.

Shipton Mill were our first ever flour supplier back in the Spring/Summer of 2020. These guys were amazing at getting flour to us in the midst of a global pandemic. They have a fantastic range of organic flours, support soil fertility, source considerately and do their bit to protect the environment too.

The water in our bread comes straight out the tap! Good old fashioned government juice. We’re lucky here in Liverpool as most Scousers will tell you. Our water tastes different. It’s special. Merseyside’s water is gathered from reservoirs in the Pennines, Cumbria, Wales and the River Dee. Delicious stuff.

Our Salt

We source our salt from The Salt Company. These guys are a family run business based in Madeley, Shropshire. They offer a range of salts, but we use a mined salt which comes from the salt mines in Cheshire.

We try to source as many of our other ingredients from organic producers, and support local zero-waste refill stations where possible to reduce our waste packing too. This includes fats, dairy products, fruits, nuts and seeds.
